The iPad tablet is a great tool to travel with. It is much lighter and more compact than a laptop but it still allows you to check your email and social media accounts while on the road. It is easy to connect to any wireless hotspot, whether you are in a cafe, airport or hotel. It is lightweight and can be easily slipped into your carry-on luggage or handbag. Also, the high quality camera allows you to snap photos while you are exploring the world.
However, if you plan on taking the iPad around the world with you it is important to take a few things into consideration. This piece of technology can be quite delicate and the screen is prone to cracking and breaking if it is dropped or crushed. It is also a highly desirable device, which means that it will be a target for theft if you are not careful. If you want to bring your iPad back in one piece at the end of your trip, here are some tips to keep in mind.
Never Put it in Your Checked Baggage
You might be tempted to put your iPad in with your checked baggage so that you don’t have to carry any luggage onto the plane. However, this is very likely a bad idea. If you could see what happens to the checked luggage on most flights, you would reconsider. Your bag will be crushed under other bags, thrown around, driven across the tarmac, rolled down conveyor belts and generally handled quite roughly. During this process, there is a good chance that your precious iPad screen could be cracked.
To ensure that your iPad makes a safe journey to your destination, keep it close to you in your hand luggage.
Invest in a Good Case
If you want to really make sure that your iPad makes it there safely, you can invest in a good quality rugged iPad case. There are many different designs out there on the market that will provide you with solid protection. Some are made from rubber and others are hard cases, some have covers for the screen and others do not. The right case will keep your iPad protected and lessen the chances of it being damaged by scratches or cracks.
Look for a cover that is made from a tough and durable material such as leather or neoprene. Avoid choosing the “sleeve” style of case, because this will require you to pull the tablet out of the sleeve every time you want to use it. There are also clear plastic screen protectors that you can use to protect the screen from dust, dirt and accidental scratches.
Protect it Against Theft
Your iPad is a valuable device and will be a desirable target for thieves, especially if you are traveling in poorer countries. Make sure that you keep it in a secure place in your luggage. If you will be walking through a very crowded public area, keep it inside a bag that is strapped around the front of your body. Keep holding this bag at all times and don’t leave it anywhere.
If you are staying in hostel rooms, try not to plug in your tablet to the charger and leave it out in the open as it will be tempting for any other guests in the shared dorms. Most hostels will have personal lockers where you can secure your valuables, so bring a padlock with you and lock up your iPad when you leave the room.
With these tips in mind, you should be able to travel safely and use your iPad while exploring the world.
